Rebuilding Together Philadelphia brings volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners in the city of Philadelphia. Each year, RTP and 1,200 volunteers provide free, safe and healthy home repairs for 75 to 100 homeowners.

RTP is a local, independent affiliate of Rebuilding Together, Inc., the nation’s leading nonprofit organization providing critical home repairs, modifications and improvements for America’s low-income homeowners.

Rebuilding Fall Block Build on October 14, 2017

This past weekend, a volunteer committee from Hands From The Heart, donated their Saturday to volunteer with RTP. The RTP Fall Block Build took place on October 13th and 14th at 1937 East Somerset Street in Kensington. Our team at HFTH was privileged to participate with around 300 Philadelphia volunteers to rebuild 11 homes within the two block radius alongside our skilled house leaders.

Hands From The Heart Home Healthcare Services provides non-medical home healthcare services to seniors and adults with disabilities, enabling those in need to continue to live in the comfort of their own home.

Fifty-two percent of homeowners who are helped during these block builds are 62 years or older and 20% have a resident with a physical disability or medical hardship. We are proud to service our community, especially the senior community, who need safety measures taken to live safely in their own homes.

“By focusing on the goal of a healthy home, we are able to create scopes of work to have the most impact on residents’ daily lives, long-term health and their ability to remain in their home,” a representative from RTP said.

Each potential house is inspected and evaluated by trained professionals in the field before the work begins.  The professionals then determine the renovation scope of work that will have the most impact for the daily lives of the homeowners.

The home improvements made at the Fall Block Build included: painting, cleaning, landscaping, floor installation, drywall, light electrical and plumbing repairs.

“The impact that this organization makes every season is unbelievable,” Rachel Clippinger, a volunteer from HFTH, said. “The homeowners were extremely appreciative of all of the work that we did and that’s what makes the day well worth it.”
